UPDATE: We are now gathering in person for worship on Sunday mornings. There are two service options: 9am and 10:30am.

Pastoral Leadership


Corey Ickes | Missional Community Pastor

IckesBorn in Pennsylvania but raised in Eastern North Carolina, Corey came to know Jesus as a child and grew to be a partner in his father’s pastoral ministry. Corey committed to a call of ministry while he was studying Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Corey served as the Pastor of Missions at Hales Chapel Baptist Church while pursuing his M.Div. in Missiology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

As Missional Community Pastor, Corey serves Rivertown Church in taking primary responsibility for the direction and multiplication of our missional communities. He also serves in preaching, pastoral care, and leadership development. Corey is passionate about Christ the King, friends and the outdoors. Corey is married to his best friend and gospel partner, Ashlee, and has two sons, Wyatt and Shepherd.

Eric James | Worship Pastor

James Family 2019Eric grew up in a Christian home but didn't come to a saving knowledge of Jesus until college. Eric has his B.A. in Information Technology from Kennesaw State University.

As Worship Pastor, Eric serves Rivertown Church in taking primary responsibility for leading our congregation in worship through song each Sunday. He also serves through discipleship, pastoral care, and preaching. Eric loves adventuring outdoors with his family and equipping others to enjoy God through the study of his Word. He and his wife Heather have two boys and three girls.

David Townsend | Discipleship Pastor

TownsendsDavid was born and raised in North Carolina where he started following Jesus as a young adult. He felt the call to ministry as a freshman at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, majoring in Philosophy and Religion. David completed his M.A. in Intercultural Studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and while there, met his wife Kaitlyn. Together they felt called to make Jesus known in Vermont.

As Discipleship Pastor, David serves Rivertown Church in taking primary responsibility for the direction and multiplication of our discipleship groups. David also serves Rivertown Church through teaching, pastoral care, leadership development, and preaching. David geeks out over many hobbies, including cycling, coffee roasting, skiing, and anything that interests him. The Lord has been kind to David by giving him Kaitlyn as a wife, and Juniper as a daughter.

Ben Whittinghill | Lead Pastor

The Whittinghills May 2019.JPGBen came to Christ at an early age in Atlanta, GA, and was called by God to pastor as a Junior at the University of Georgia. After finishing his business degree, Ben served as Discipleship Pastor of the City Church in Kennesaw, GA while completing his M.Div. at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

As Lead Pastor, Ben serves Rivertown Church in taking primary responsibility for vision, preaching, and equipping the church for the work of ministry. He also serves in pastoral care and leadership development. He is passionate about Jesus, his family and friends, discipleship, and coffee. God has greatly blessed Ben and his wife Kayla with five boys and a girl.

Jessie Weeks | Kids Ministry Director

Weeks FamJessie Weeks is a California girl who has now lived most of her life in Vermont. She and her husband Nate came to Christ as adults and are both passionate about seeing people come to know and follow Jesus as the only source of hope and salvation.

As our Kids Ministry Director, Jessie serves the families Rivertown Church in leading a team of volunteers to create opportunities for kids to learn about Jesus and his gospel in a safe and fun environment. She also serves as the church's administrative assistant. Jessie enjoys reading, crafts, and spending time with family.

Elizabeth Burns | Women's Discipleship Director

Liz BurnsLiz came to Christ as a freshman while pursuing a marketing degree at Georgia College and State University. After placing her trust in Jesus, Liz experienced authentic discipleship through a ministry on campus, and the Lord developed in her a passion to see women discipled with the Word of God to know and walk with Jesus.  

As Women's Discipleship Director, Liz serves the ladies of our church by training and equipping them to know and love Jesus in his Word and to make disciples. Liz also leads our Connect team to help create a hospitable and welcoming environment to guests of our church. Liz enjoys pretty much anything outside, reading, and a quality cup of coffee.
